Regarding the Collection
The Sainsbury Archive records not only the evolution of retailing since the middle of the 19th century and its effects on society but also the history of Sainsbury’s from its establishment in Drury Lane in 1869.
The foundation of the archive was established in 1969, around the time the business celebrated its centennial, and it has since steadily expanded to more than 700 linear meters of shelving, which houses documents, objects (such as food preparation and testing equipment, product packaging, and staff uniforms), photographs, and audiovisual materials.
